How we fell in love with narrowboats – and hope you will too
A last minute late availability from a local hire company initially sparked our unexpected enthusiasm for the inland waterways in 2008. Having lived on the Cornwall coast for 17 years, and having spent many hours on boats at sea, the thought of travelling the canals seemed far less exciting. However, within the space of one month, we had not only hired two boats, we had purchased our own. Since then, having spent many holidays on boats and observed the way of life, we decided that we would make it more permanent. In 2014, we bought our own dutch barge/Liverpool Icebreaker hybrid boat shell and found our own permanent mooring – just three miles from Nikki’s birthplace of Leighton Buzzard. By 2015, we had fully fitted and completed our new home – aptly named Winterfell – and moved aboard.
Unsurprisingly, we love our life on the canal. Being near to the water, the community, and nature has brought us endless joy, and we are keen to share that love of the waterways with others. This is what led us to The Epic Boating Company. We believe there are not enough quality, ‘home from home’ luxury hire boats on the canal. We don’t think that loving the canals means you have to compromise on the creature comforts of day-to-day life. As tradesmen by day, we understand the importance of having beautiful interior spaces, and think that boats can have a touch of luxury just as well as a home can. You won’t have to choose between adventure and quality when booking with The Epic Boating Company.
Should you even catch ‘the bug’ just like us, we’ve built our entire fleet by hand and would be happy to build one for you too.
We’re able to offer fit-outs of shells, renovations of older boats, and even have a high specification pre-built boat almost complete and ready to sail away right now.
You might be tempted to change your life just like we did.
