Why choose a narrowboat holiday?

Whether you’ve been canal boating before, or are a complete novice, a holiday on the inland waterways is an unforgettable experience for all. Even if you’re local, you’ll experience the towns and countryside you think you know from a completely different perspective. Taking life at a slower page (4mph) allows you to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Members of our British Wildlife turn up unexpectedly on your journey, and you’ll get to relish the joys of life on the canal and the friendly community on the cut. A sense of separation from the hustle & bustle of urban life is a given, but if you do fancy some time in a city or town then you’re not too far away. Whatever you decide, you’ll be creating memories with your family & friends to last a lifetime.

The slow-paced nature of narrowboats will give you a newfound appreciation of your surroundings. You might be lucky enough to catch a glance of the elusive blue Kingfisher, or find yourself engrossed in hooking the plentiful carp that live in the waters of the canals. Avid ramblers will find that the canals offer miles both on or off the towpath with hidden entrances into woodland trails and meadows. The sense of adventure and mobility is often an appeal to younger boaters looking for a change of scenery and an escape from the hustle & bustle of metropolitan life. Of course, if Britain’s extensive line-up of canalside pubs and restaurants is more your style, you’ll find no shortage along this stretch of the Grand Union.

Wow wow wow, what a amazing holiday from booking to return. Andy and were amazing hosts, they made us and our 2 dogs feel very welcome and showed us how everything worked and where everything was. Andy accompanied us through the first lock and made sure we were happy with sailing on our own. We enjoyed 5 beautiful nights onboard and it felt like a luxury hotel, everything you could possibly need on a break had been thought of and provided, it was spotlessly clean and well furnished. This was our first hire of a narrow boat but will definitely book again. Cannot praise The Epic Boat Co enough thank you both.

First time experience for us but certainly not the last! We hired Kings Landing for 2 nights and had the best time ever. The boat is beautiful, not only inside but outside too that we had lots of people commenting how pretty it looked! The beds were comfy, kitchen was fully equipped and every area was impeccably clean. Andy and Nikki are wonderful people and very welcoming. They provided us life jackets for the kids and a stool for me to stand on whilst steering the boat. Andy stayed with us on the boat until we were fully confident. Overall really happy with the whole experience and will definitely be booking again.

While luxurious, comfortable and brilliantly designed, you don’t have to be a Lannister to afford a holiday on this boat. We were lucky enough to book the boat very short notice having seen the scorcher of a forecast; Nikki and Andy have been superb. Clear instructions for pick up and usage, everything you might need on the boat including toiletries, towels, hair dryer, Netflix, WiFi that works and very importantly, maps! Games for the evening, outdoor furniture, bbq, I can carry on and on. I highly recommend it; nothing like it in a perfect location on Grand Union. Bliss! Word of warning: King’s Landing may make you want to own a boat. Facts.
